Researchers at Stanford University have recently created a new "smart" electrospinning separator with a thermal triggering mechanism that contains a flame retardant that can be used to prevent lithium-ion battery combustion.
In such a structure, the flame retardant is packaged in the inside of the polymer protection shell to prevent the flame retardant from directly dissolving into the electrolyte, thereby adversely affecting the battery performance. When the heat inside the lithium battery is too high, the polymer protective shell will be dissolved because of high temperature, the release of flame retardants, which effectively inhibit the highly flammable electrolyte combustion.

T-CM-2032 After coin cell assembly cathode, separator and anode, the wrench directly sealed in the module, you can remove from the glove box directly for the discharge performance test. Lithium battery, as one of the high capacity battery systems, has been a major challenge in the field of dendritic growth and instability of SEI film. There are a lot of research from the battery lab equipments, electrolyte, seperator and other directions to improve the safety of lithium metal batteries. There are many studies to enhance the safety of the battery through the strengthening of the seperator, and through the coating of ceramic materials to improve the seperator strength is one of the commonly used methods.

Based on data from GGII, in 2016 the domestic cathode material output 154,000 tons, with year-on-year growth of 36%. Its growth is mainly driven by lithium iron phosphate（LFP/ LiFePO4）, ternary materials, lithium cobalt oxide（LCO/LiCoO2）. And Lithium iron phosphate, lithium manganese oxide (LMO/ LiMn2O4) to domestic demand-based, lithium cobalt oxide, ternary materials have bulk exports,  especially lithium cobalt oxide, because overseas manufacturers gradually give up producing lithium cobalt oxide; 2016 cathode materials all rose in price, because of the impact of price increases of lithium carbonate.
In the field of anode materials, in 2016, China's anode material output of 116,400 tons, an increase of 63%, of which driven by domestic demand and exports.
In the field of electrolytes, 2016 electrolytic liquid production in China 86,700 tons, an increase of 49%; electrolyte prices in 2016 year on year increase of more than 100%, the price increase is mainly driven by lithium hexafluorophosphate.
In the field of separator, 2016 Separator production in China 1.02 billion square meters, an increase of 89%; growth is mainly driven by domestic demand and exports, there are four domestic enterprises to achieve bulk export;
China's lithium-ion battery materials export rate increased rapidly
In the past few years, driven by the two-wheel of policy and capital, China's Lithium battery industry has seen a jump in growth. Lithium battery key materials, electrolytes, cathode, anode have all basically realized 100% of the localization, and also to achieve large quantities of exports.
At the same time, the localization rate of auxiliary materials is still low, such as PVDF, SBR, aluminum plastic film, especially aluminum-plastic film, localization rate of less than 5%, therefore, there are investment opportunities for auxiliary materials.
With advantages of resources and cost, the pace of domestic materials to enter the international market is accelerating. It is expected that in 2017, China's lithium battery materials exports will grow more than 20%.
